amazing mekong and the malaria kid

Laos:Luang Prabang:www.laopdr.com

WHoooo. Have arrived in Luang Prabang after 2 day river boat ride from Huay Xai or something like that. It was actually pretty nice ride, little wooden diesel boats with gilligan at the wheel or skipper, actually both and its like a pickup truck taxi on water but with more room for the legs, holds about 25 people and after they get going you can climb out the windows and get on the roof. Its best on the roof, just you and your lonesome, and everyone else and their lonesomes, under the wicked white haze of the asian skies, amid the water buffalo, and occasional elephant, a bouying dead dog, gliding down the brown murk, giant mud soup of centuries, between the shores of craggy slate-like rocks and beaches, underbrush and overbrush and vegetation, strange, at times it could be any river, but then the palm trees or some other conspicuous jungle item gives it all away…huts and fishermen, naked children waving and playing… its nice to sleep on top the boat but you cant be too close to the edge you may roll into the mekong and become a travel mystery and legend for hordes of animistic pagan and hippie travellers to mull over for centuries to come…”what about that guy that rolled into the mekong?” “yeah, I heard that his spirit took the form of a giant water buffalo that haunts the river all the way down to luang prabang…”

spooky dude.

so you have to just lay there and soak the sun like a sponge or god and realize that this river is yours and this world is yours, etc, your own full blown capitalist fantasy, no, just kidding theres got to be responsibility with every “power-daydream”…

and damn if this dirobioxylidenucleicaciddontardocycle malaria medicine doesn’t have the craziest of side effects. crazy ass vivid dreams to wake you at 3am every single night, amid the insane roosters lamenting their karmic destinies as puny unintelligent food for others, god what is wrong with those birds? i’ve bought things at radio shack that have kept better time…and your dreaming like supertechno color but its so intense that it wakes you up.

goodbye, now i eat and be merry with my new eurocompanions and tomorrow i will venture into this amazing little dusty mystical city known as luang prabang…where monks can and do rent DVD’s…
