Trans Am, Oxes, Rye Coalition: in support of CHUNKLET

Well, I was determined to make it to the show last night, despite the dreary cold and my sore throat and I did. I’m not so sure i’d say it was a “great” show, but it was an amusing time and good god were there some cute girls there. And dudes too according to Kelly and accomplice Rachel. Those whacky chicks were in high giddy spirits and I was honored to be their “coach” of sorts, but it turned out that all the guys there were probably gay anyway. Oh well, better luck next time…I realized too late now that I need to make little invites for the New Years Bash to give to random cute girls. Damn!!! I’ll get right on it…

The oxes looked like they were in high school, acted like they were in high school, played ok math rock, and wore funny “Abercrombie” tshirts. Nothing new there… Rye Coalition had a good stompin garage rock power set to accomodate whiskey drinking. Good ruckus but don’t think i’ll buy the cd after all.

Notable event was Henry Owings fronting Nirvana’s “Drain You” with the Oxes Kids. He did ok for a rock critic, but I’m still wondering why he wanted to do it. I would have preferred him doing Kareoke to Brittany Spears in a wetsuit or just shirtless and flailing around like Jack Black…anyway, you can read the full review of Henry’s performance later with the review of Chunklet.

Trans Am finally were damn good. Last time I thought they sucked and did way to much of the roboto schtick. This time there was a good blend of old and new, and synthy and straight up, the crafty joe satriani themed surfscape music they’re so well known for. That drummer is killer.

Anyways, the two weeks of good rock are over since I’m borderline sick and go oncall tomorrow anyway. Expect mesmerising updates on corporate culture in the next week, since that will be my life.
