death kultur

Memorable quote overheard just a second ago here at work:

“If an animal didn’t die for my dinner, then it wasn’t a good dinner.”

(sinister laughter)

This bothers me kind of like the Chick Filet ads bother me with the cows scrawling “eat more chiken” on everything. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the eating of sketchy meat products, but do you get the impression that as a culture we are so damn insensitive about the whole thing? See PETA for guidance. It also reminds me of these two barbie twin waitrons I used to work with that would always eat veal despite my protests. It wasn’t the fact that they ate the veal that really bothered me, it was the fact that they had no defense or any thought whatsoever on the subject. I mean, if your gonna eat factory farmed flesh then know what your doing and defend yourself when interrogated. What I would have responded with if I were these two barbie’s questioned by me: “Yeah, I’m aware of the fact that this these baby cows are stored in boxes their whole lives so that their flesh is tender to the bite, and I don’t care. I’d eat any kind of meat presented to me, including you if it were legal.” End argument, I’m satisfied.
