Gypsies sue IBM

Was IBM in bed with Hitler? Well Gypsy organizations in Eastern Europe think so, and they want $12 billion from Big Blue. Apparently they are basing their case on Edwin Black’s book, “I.B.M. and the Holocaust: The Strategic Alliance Between Nazi Germany and America’s Most Powerful Corporation.”

“Mr. Black argues that before and during World War II, I.B.M. provided the punch-cards and early computers that allowed Nazi Germany to organize the attempted extermination of the Jews and Gypsies of Europe.”

For films depicting gypsy culture check out filmmaker Tony Gatliff, who has made “Vengo”, “Gadjo Dilo” (also sometimes titled the “Crazy Stranger”, a personal favorite), a thing I have yet to see from ‘82 called “The Princes’”, and “Latcho Drom”, which is mostly instrumental rather than plot driven, like the non-gypsy “Anima”, “Baraka”, or Reggio/Glass’ various “Quatsi” films.

There are also lots of films depicting Nazi culture of course, but those aren’t so esoteric. But for my money, “Eurpoa” was a more engaging film than the manipulative “Schindler’s List”.

Good luck with the lawsuit gypsy’s. Initailly to picture Gypsy Lawyer vs. IBM Law team is laughable, but then again the Gypsy Mafia probably has deep pockets, not to mention major CURSE factor….

Slate talks about The Piano and Nick Denton on holocaust movies. Chad I always knew you were a sucker for Gypsy movies after you cried watching Chocolat.

    Pat,

I’ve heard rumors that “Big Blue” will be using a next generation AI in place of a lawyer. But fair enough, the Gypsies will be given a manual of it’s operative algorithms 24 hours in advance to prepare…
