P73: the digi-log kid
The thing about seeing shows at the Echo that is most annoying I realized last night, is that you can’t see people’s faces. Everyone is shotgun to the stage in narrow trailer museum format, so you can’t really mill about during the boring opening acts, and then of course it’s impossible to get up close to front for a good view of, oh let’s say, Neko Case. The Earl is far superior in it’s corner stage approach, which allows one to walk to one side of the stage and browse the crowd, or let’s say, many different perspectives of Neko Case.
But none of that mattered for Prefuse73’s cd opener last night. Prefuse, if you didn’t know him, is Atlanta’s premier homegrown knob-twiddler, with turntables to boot (although currently expatriating in Barcelona). If you get the chance, check him out, the live show is oddly engaging for a non-natural instument band. But what’s natural nowadays, eh? Pitchfork got to the review of One Word Extinguisher before I could, so I guess I’ll defer to them once again, *sigh*…
