From OHIO

Live from the ridiculously fluorescent dressing room in Covington, Kentucky I am still catching breath, Heineken in hand, dripping in sweat, after playing at the Madison Theatre, which desperately needs a new color scheme to its carpeted walls and floors. Show was PACKED out, three tiers of heads going all the way to the back, I didn’t peek and see how many people were there before which I like better as you don’t have time to get nervous. Audience seems to enjoy a rivalry over whether we are in Cincinnati or Covington since there is simply a river between them. I imagine the venue sized somewhere between the Roxy and Tabernacle. Best show yet, I think, as we weren’t as nervous as playing the massive and cavernous Promowest in Columbus last night (monster video screens?!?) and we are finding our groove, etc. Zen if you will. This place, while not as new or swank as the last two, has probably the most helpful crew to date, although I can’t complain about any. They are just on the ball from the get go here, pulling crap out of the van, and already a cooler stocked with Heineken and Old Milwaukee. So the main difference with playing places like the Earl and the Madison Theatre, aside from the obvious, is that the crew helps you load in and even set up or break down if you want. Nice, especially for a drummer. People really seemed to dig it tonight, it seems that word is spreading about the band and people are coming to the shows with expectations, although I don’t know if that is entirely true, or true at all for that matter…but these are mostly Indigo Girls fans, I can tell you that for sure, because when we don’t open for them, well, it’s a quite a different story. Or perhaps we are simply playing better and that is riling up the masses? Or perhaps the masses are just getting drunker and drunker? So much uncertainty in the world.

Last night in Columbus was great too, enormous venue, video screens, ultramod dressing rooms with showers, and the works. I felt a little under the microscope playing and realized that making eye contact with random people was the kiss of death. Along with catching yourself on a video screen. Ughhh. But the girls seem at home with it, after all, they’ve worked much bigger crowds back in the day. Load out was in the rain (the weather has been shit the whole tour except for Texas) and at the end of the night Indigo fans were waiting outside the fence started calling me Jesus as I loaded up the van. It was funny, but they were weird and wouldn’t shut up so I didn’t hang around. Last night we stayed in some shit Super 8 and Scott and I went bowling at Capri Lanes after we got back. Ruthie and Linda got to experience a random masterbator walking back from Starbucks in the hotel parking lot before we left. Nice.

Hey, I was at the show last night in Covington, and I must say that you guys rocked. I’m sure you made a few fans while you were here, me included. I haven’t stopped listening to your cd. Hope you come back this way soon!

    Lovin’ the tour stories!

So I go out to my car this morning, ready to load this small end table into my trunk that I’m taking to my Dad, and open it to find it filled with boxes. I am completely mystified! There is a microwave oven box, a printer box. They are filled with socks and whatnot and I can not imagine why someone has broken into my trunk to stash this stuff, truely have no idea where it came from. Then I realize, over three weeks ago, while helping you move I never unloaded these things; so remind me when you get back, I have some more of your stuff. I was especially freaked out by a camo trucker hat for a minute, until that was the item that made it all click…’This is Chad’s stuff!’
