No Quota On Stupid
I think Matt Welch sums up the “but we’re at war” political excuse-reasoning quite nicely.
It’s no real news that political speech is full of fallacy and rhetoric, it’s just sad that it’s become what we expect from our leaders.
Appeal to Force: The reader is persuaded to agree by force: If you are a good American, you will support the war. If you don’t, you are a traitor.
Sound familiar? At the onset of the war, chances are if you tuned into Fox News for more than 30 seconds you heard some boisterous self-righteous pundit arguing more or less this exact nonsense. Why, you ask yourself, would anyone publicly embrace such a blatant fallacy? The answer is simple: in America, the EPA has no quota on how much stupid you can release into the earth’s atmosphere.
