Rein Sanction
Some Rein Sanction finally made its way to the youtubes. If you missed this band in the early 90s, which wouldn’t have been that difficult, you nevertheless missed something. Only two short albums for subpop and then one of them jumped out of a car or something. There were always the craziest stories with these guys. I had Mariposa stuck in my Subaru’s cassette player for like 8 months. I didn’t really get sick of it. What other recording holds up that well?
And Deeper Road.

I remember when these guys first moved to Athens and would play all of these house parties I’d find myself at. Loud as hell and they pretty much took the town by storm. Good times.

Back in the day… Yeah after one of those Athens house parties at my apartment I woke up to find one of them scavenging rabidly through my desk drawers, presumably searching for my non-existent stash, instead finding only withered Tom Robbins novels, disattached dreadlocks, and Mickey’s Big Mouth pop-tops.

didn’t they steal all of our girlfriends or something? notorious. it’s all hazy. i remember their practice space was a couple down from ours at joe campbell, the shiny evangelist savior of the rock scene, i think and there was a break in…carnage..stolen guitars…but again, i’m losing it all to overpowering liquid memories of Great Beer Times.

When Thorny Hold played with them, the drummer got all up in my face about maple shells being the best cause they were louder. Besides the fact that doesn’t make sense at all, I’ve never been able to figure out why I liked their music. Broc’s Cabin still holds up over time.

ThornyHold is one word…jackass!…

Thornyhold, the book is one word, the band Thorny Hold was two words. Got flyers to prove it.

Flyers, schmiers… How many people have you heard say “Thorny (pause) Hold”? Write it like it sounded. Early 90’s were the great era of the one word band name anyway. You know, like ReinSanction-
Act like just cause you were in the band you’re some kind of authority…
How much could you tell of what was REALLY going on, hidden behind that kit anyway?

I had been searching the web to no avail of any bigger images of the Mariposa album cover for my iTunes Coverflow goodness, so I just scanned one. Enjoy!
