BSG goes U.N.

Sadly, the worst part of Battlestar Galactica is what most people celebrate about it, the humanity, the overreaching emotions, the so very obvious, forced allegories. They way overdo it. If you watch the show and witnessed Adama’s 17th emotional breakdown last week you know what I mean. More Cylon trickery and less human-cylon reconciliation bullshit! But fuck it, maybe there is something the U.N. can learn from a TV show.

On March 17, there will be a “Battlestar” retrospective at the U.N. in New York and a panel discussion of how the show examined issues such as “human rights, children and armed conflict, terrorism, human rights and reconciliation and dialogue among civilizations and faith,” according to Sci Fi.

The panel will be moderated by “Battlestar” fan Whoopi Goldberg.

It does seem to be going out with a whimper rather than a bang.

    WTF? Whoopi?

It’s unfortunate for BSG that it’s getting weaker while Lost (running simultaneously and also wrapping up story arcs) is getting better and better with every episode. I care less every week about what happens in BSG and the finale looks to be as heavy-handed and hammy as the rest of this half season.

  3. All said, it is the best thing the Sci-Fi channel has done. Lost has more money, better writers, better actors. What pisses me off about BSG is that they have simply lost focus of what made the show good, and gone overboard with the ‘human drama.’ Ugh.

But Lost started out with a cast of relative “unknown” actors, not the same as BSG who had two veteran actors headlining the show. I don’t think having more money has much to do with show quality- the best seasons of BSG were in the beginning when they had NO money.
It all comes down to the quality of writing. I don’t need to be beaten over the head with sentimentality.
The best acting done on BSG is by Thye’s one eye. You know it’s true.

  5. I agree with the writing point. It’s all Ron Moore’s fault. Just look at his dragon*con hairdo. Geeks can’t do sentiment, but he couldn’t resist dabbling in the drama.
